MANGALDAI: With the theme 'Together we are unstoppable' the Darrang District Branch of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), synchronizing with the worldwide celebration of World Red Cross Day, on Saturday celebrated the birthday of Nobel Peace Award recipient and the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Henry Dunant who was born on this day in 1828. To mark this day, the officials of Darrang district IRCS distributed masks, hand sanitizers and soaps to the cross section of the people in Mangaldai town and also organized an awareness campaign.
Earlier, president of Darrang district IRCS, Gobinda Chandra Upadhyaya unfurled the Red Cross flag while secretary Hari Chandra Sarma offered floral tributes on the portrait of Henry Dunant at a simple function held at the district office of the IRCS at Santipur here. Finance secretary of AASU, Khanindra Rajbongshi and Executive Member Niranjan Saikia, eminent blood donor and social activist Shekhar Mazumdar, media person Mukut Raj Sarma and treasurer of Darrang district IRCS, Jayanta Sarma took part in the programme.
