BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Bilasipara sub-divisional branch, World Red Cross Day was observed at Bilasipara on the premises of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan on Friday with a daylong programme. In this connection, the flag of the Red Cross Society was hoisted by chairman, IRCS, Bilasipara sub-divisional branch Dr Kanu Lal Das in the morning. Dr. Kanu Lal Das garlanded the portrait of Sir Jean Henry Dunant, father of the Red Cross Society, followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp by Kalyan Chakraborty, secretary of the branch. Dr. Das explained the significance of the day. Thereafter, mass clapping by the Red Cross volunteers was held. In this connection, the doctors and other health workers of Bilasipara Civil Hospital and Bilasipara State Dispensary were felicitated with phoolam gamocha and packets of light food. Fruits, milk packets, biscuits etc, were also distributed among the patients of the hospital. Packets of light food were also distributed among the police on duty. Thereafter, light food and fresh fruits were distributed among the inmates of the Children's Home located at Ward No. 4 under Bilasipara town committee. Large quantities of tarpaulins was also distributed among the needy people of the locality.
