MANGALDAI: Along with the rest of the state, World Thalassaemia Day has also been observed in Darrang district on Monday with this year’s theme “Be aware, share, care, strengthening education to bridge the thalassaemia care group.” In this connection, an awareness meeting was organized by the authority of Mangaldai Blood Bank at its premises which was attended by a section of thalassaemia patients and their guardians, members of a number of NGOs like Crystal Vision, Unity the Blood Donors etc associated with blood donation, staff of the Blood Bank and Mangaldai Civil Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion from the chair, Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang Dr Nirmal Kumar Beria highlighted about the need of coordinated efforts of all in the society for strengthening the voluntary blood donation campaign to cater to the regular need of blood for more than seventy thalassaemia patients of the district. He also urged upon the thalassaemia patients to undergo regular medical check up by expert doctors and avail the financial aid given by the government for such patients below fourteen years of age since last year and also apply to get enrolled under the ‘Orunodoi’ scheme .
