HAFLONG: Celebrating World Tourism Day, the department of tourism, Dima Hasao organized World Tourism Day Run which was flagged off by Ranu Langthasa, Chairperson, N C Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), on Sunday at Haflong.
The Chairperson was accompanied by Paul Barua, Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao, Nandita Gorlosa, Executive Member, Monjit Naiding, MAC, Nojit Kemprai, MAC, NCHAC, Zovi Nampui, Secretary NCHAC and Donpainon Thaosen, president, BJP, Haflong.
All together 150 boys and girls took part in the 9 km-run from Boat house to Diyung bridge. The runners who secure first and second position will receive cash prizes and certificates.
This was followed by demonstration of several adventure activities like zip lining and rock climbing etc. near Diyung bridge.
Speaking on the occasion, CEM Gorlosa stressed on the importance of hospitality and cleanliness to be maintained for the development of tourism industry in the district. He said, "Our district is blessed with natural beauty, flora and fauna and pleasant weather which may not be available in other places. It is quite natural that people from other places are very much eager to visit our district." All the guests were felicitated with 'Risa' by the officials of Dima Hasao tourism. Among others, Ranu Langthasa, Monjit Naiding, Nandita Gorlosa spoke on the occasion stressing importance on the protection of environment and the nature.
