World Wetland Day observed in Biswanath Chariali

Members of Wild Heart Foundation, Team-BRF and WWF, Plastic Pickers named Niku Das, Nilim Kumar Saikia, Karabi Kakati, Abhigyan Pegu, Anupam Upadhyay, Harish Kondha, along with some village kids, visited Kodomoni Beel to observe World Wetland Day on Wednesday.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Members of Wild Heart Foundation, Team-BRF and WWF, Plastic Pickers named Niku Das, Nilim Kumar Saikia, Karabi Kakati, Abhigyan Pegu, Anupam Upadhyay, Harish Kondha, along with some village kids, visited Kodomoni Beel to observe World Wetland Day on Wednesday.

Kodomoni Beel, known for its exquisite beauty and biodiversity, is an ox-bow lake near the town of Biswanath Chariali. The team enjoyed the wetland along with the sunset which is very famous among the locals here. The team held discussions about the wetland's importance and the impending threats upon it. The team also created awareness among the local villagers on the importance of the wetland and how to take steps to conserve it.

During the visit, they also observed many migratory bird species such as Mallard, Gadwall, Whistling duck, Black-necked stork, Lapwings and River tern. As per a study conducted in the wetlands, a total of 106 birds, 47 plants and more than 50 fish species are found in Biswanath district and Kodomoni is a major habitat of these.
