Xahitya Xabha units observe ‘Nijar Din’; prominent figures feted in Lakhimpur, Nagaon

LAKHIMPUR, April 16: Axam Xahtya Xabha (AXX), the premier literary organization of the State, observes the first day of the month of Bohag in the Indian calender, on which ‘Manuh Bihu’ falls, as Nijar Din every year. Following the tradition, the Lakhimpur Zila Xahitya Xabha and other branch units of the AXX under the district observed the designated day on Saturday by organizing due programmes to fete the prominent persons who extended remarkable contribution in the building of the society and for the enhancement of the community.

In this connection, led by newly-elected president Haren Hazarika, the Telahi Kamalaboriya Anchalik Sakha Xahitya Xabha, one of the active branch units of the AXX, feted retired teacher Basanti Devi, who is also the wife of Bhavadev Sarmah, the founder secretary-cum-former president of the branch literary body, at her residence at Saru Kamalaboria. She was honoured with a citation sent from the AXX, gamosa, cheleng, japi and bundle of books. On this occasion a literary event with different cultural items was organized under the management of secretary Dulal Dutta. Former presidents Nila Chutia, Lohit Chandra Khaund, former secretaries Sanjib Borah, Mintu Sarmah were present in the event whorein former president Prasanta Kumar Borah threw light on the life and activities of Bhavadev Sarmah.

On the other hand, observing the Nijar Din, Lakhimpur Zila Xahitya Xabha (LJXX) feted social workers Rajesh Malpani and Jagadish Bajaj at their residences located in North Lakhimpur town. They were also feted with the citation sent from the AXX, gamosa, cheleng, japi and bundle of books. In addition, 38 branch literary bodies of the AXX under the district also feted the notable persons of their respective jurisdiction by observing Nijar Din.

NAGAON, April 16: Nagaon Zila Xahitya Xabha celebrated ‘Nijar Din’ at its district office auditorium ‘Kamala Todi Bhavan’ on Saturday.

On the occasion, an open session was also held which was chaired by Thagit Mahanta, president of Nagaon Zila Xahitya Xabha. During the session, Nagaon Zila Xahitya Xabha felicitated a number of prominentindividuals who contributed a great deal in various fields of society. Among them, a 91-year woman, Usha Rani Sarkar was also present.

Over hundreds of members from various local branches of Axam Xahitya Xabha participated in the celebration. Paran Kr Boruah, former president of Nagaon Zila Xahitya Xabha, released a book titled Nailut Nagui penned by Bibha Phukon, a noted law practitioner of the district, during the open session here.
