TINSUKIA/LAKHIMPUR: Recipient of several accolades and a renowned exponent of Xattriya culture, Xatradhikar Jugadananda Chandra Goswami of Dinjoy Xatra in Chabua and based at Borguri Tinsukia, will be conferred the Madhabdev Award for the year 2016 along with Padmashree Dr Sunil Kuthari for the year 2019 by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in a programme to be held at Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district on Monday.
Highly revered among Mayamora Vaishnavites, Jugadananda Chandra Goswami was born to Mahadananda Chandra Goswami, the 9th Xatradhikar of Mayamora Dinjoy Xatra, and Torawati Goswami in 1927 and did his graduation from St Anthony’s College, Shillong. In 1960 he joined as assistant teacher at Dinjoy Hazarimal High School and retired as assistant headmaster in 1987. A prolific writer and organizer, he established the Xatriya Sangeet Mahavidyalaya in Jorhat and a Bisharad curriculum on Xattriya Sangeet at Dibrugarh University, to which he was also a Court Member. An ardent philosopher of peace and harmony, Xatradhikar Goswami undertook several peace mission initiatives across the State. Conferred with Asom Satra Ratna Award in 2016, he headed several religious institutions and was instrumental in conservation and propagation of valuable hachipotia scripts of xatra.
On Monday, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will also take part in a government programme to be held at Narayanpur Higher Secondary School in Lakhimpur, organized under the aegis of the Directorate of Culture in association with Lakhimpur district administration. On the same day, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the Madhavdev University officially. State P&RD and Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, MPs Pradan Baruah and Pallav Lochan Das, MLAs Utpal Dutta and Debananda Hazarika along with a galaxy of noted personalities will take part in the event.
Prior to these programmes at 10 am, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the new building of North Lakhimpur Police Station, constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.92 crore under Maitree Scheme.
