Young homeopathic doctor found dead in Jorhat; murder suspected

A young homeopathic doctor was allegedly murdered on Saturday at a rented house in Jorhat town.

JORHAT: A young homeopathic doctor was allegedly murdered on Saturday at a rented house in Jorhat town.

Police sources said that a 24-year old homeopathic doctor was found dead in his rented house in bylane 4 of Chandan Nagar under Jorhat sadar police station in the district. The young doctor has been identified as Rahul Basumatary, an intern doctor of J K Memorial Homeopathic Medical College, Jorhat.

Rahul Basumatary is from Udalguri district and had completed his Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery degree in 2019 from J K Memorial Homeopathic Medical College. Jorhat Police have already started investigation into the case. The homeopathic doctor was allegedly killed with a knife and his throat had a deep slit. He was found lying in a pool of blood on the floor of his rented house.

The house owner, a retired joint secretary of the Government of Assam, Hira Prasad Nath was surprised to see the motorcycle missing from the campus on Saturday morning. Nath gave a call to Rahul Basumatary but did not get any response. The landlord went to Rahul's flat and found the door open. When Nath entered the room, he found him lying on the floor in a pool of blood. He immediately informed the Jorhat Police.

Police rushed to the spot. A vegetable-cutting knife was recovered from the spot. The suspected assailants also decamped with Rahul Basumatary's motorcycle. Police have alerted all police stations in Jorhat and the nearby district to intercept anyone found riding the motorcycle. The motorcycle was a Royal Enfield Thunderbird bearing registration number AS 03 Y 8281.
