Zaloni Tea Estate declared 'Containment Zone' in Dibrugarh district

DIGBOI: Total 58 workers, including two hospital staff, of Zaloni Tea Estate under Tingrai circle in Dibrugarh district, have tested COVID positive in the last two days.

"Earlier on Monday, 38 patients were found infected with the virus while 20 new cases surfaced today during the rapid antigen test conducted in the garden," said Dr Apoorva Kumar Sarmah, the medical inspector of plantation, Dibrugarh district.

"Out of around 160 RAT conducted today, 20 turned to be positive on Tuesday," confirmed the doctor.

According to Sharma, who visited the garden site along with the Circle Officer, Joint Director of Health Department, and Tengakhat police team on Tuesday morning, all the infected patients were asymptomatic and were adequately taken care of.

"The patients were accommodated in two separate vacant quarters of the garden and are under quarantine while fresh 20 patients were shifted to government quarantine centres," said the doctor, adding, "There are no serious cases, all healthy and doing well. Health status is constantly monitored and adequate medicines, food and water are being provided to the patients. The entire garden will be sanitized well by Wednesday, besides initiating a vaccination programme in the garden," said Dr Sharma.

Meanwhile, the tea estate has been declared containment zones for two days and the district administration has specifically ordered the frontline workers and garden authority to strictly monitor the entry and exit of the people, including the garden workers.

All the patients were temporary workers of the garden while two, including a nurse and a pharmacist, belonged to the garden hospital.
