GUWAHATI: Today marks the 50th birthday of Assam's most versatile singer Zubeen Garg. The singing sensation received a lot of good wishes from his admirers.
Zubeen Garg got his name in honour of the well-known musical genius Zubin Mehta by his parents. Garg's mother plays a very important role in his musical career as she served as his first singing teacher and became his Guru.
After that, he spent the next 11 years studying the tabla with Pandit Robin Banerjee. He was introduced to the Assamese people by Guru Ramani Rai.
Garg began writing songs from the time of his school days and at the age of 13, he wrote and performed his first song, "Gaane ki Aane."
Sometimes a single piece of art is enough to make your name alive for years to come and "Ya Ali Rahem Wali" by Zubeen Garg is one of them.
With this song, the heartthrob of Assam in the 2006 Hindi film Gangster starring Imran Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, and Shiny Ahuja, Zubeen, who was already well-known in the Assamese music and cinema industry, became an overnight sensation throughout India.
The song was a collaboration between Zubeen Garg and Shiny Ahuja which received Stardust Awards in the category of best male- New Musical Sensation.
It also received 'Best Playback Singer - Male' Award in both International Indian Film Academy and Filmfare Awards 2007.
Zubeen's ability to simply play chords and melodies, play various instruments, or write poems and songs has made him the most versatile singer in the entire state.
He has made everyone feel the subtle beauty that music can hold. Garg introduced originality, uniqueness, and optimism with his early music, much like Assam's most notable cultural figure, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
In addition to being influential, he is also kind and was reportedly found helping his fans many times during trouble.

The singer has given birth to many masterpieces besides "Ya Ali", which includes the making of "Mayabini Ratir Bukut".
The song has become a sensation in not only Assam but the entire nation as many covers were also made by other famous artists throughout the country.
Zubeen Garg also says he fantasizes about the people of Assam singing his superhit song 'Mayabini' the day he breathes his last breath.
In a recent viral video Arman Malik, a famous Bollywood singer was also seen singing 'Mayabini' in front of his admirers while a Bengali remake version was also made on the same song after the Assamese version was released.
