Guwahati: Amid simmering tension along the Assam-Mizoram border, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday afternoon. PM Modi assured Sonowal on solving the issue between the two neighbouring states. He shared the same on Twitter.
Following the incident, CM Sonowal had earlier apprised the Prime Minister's Office and Union Home Ministry regarding the prevailing tension between the two states.
CM Sonowal also had telephonic conversations with the top officials at PMO's office, along with Mizoram's CM Zoramthanga. During the conversation, Sonowal emphasised on taking joint measures, which are effective in solving the border disputes. Zoramthanga has assured Sonowal to make efforts to maintain peace at the inter-state border.
A meeting is also scheduled, which will be chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The chief secretaries of the two states will also be present.
The recent clash between Assam-Mizoram border has left several injured, one of who is critically injured and is battling for his life. Violence broke out on October 17 as almost 20 houses and shops were set on fire in the border area.
