3.2 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Manipur's Ukhrul, No Injuries Reported

IMPHAL: The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that on June 17 at about 10.30 am, an earthquake of a magnitude of 3.2 struck Ukhrul in Manipur.

Taking on twitter, National Centre of Seismology informed that, “Earthquake of Magnitude:3.2, Occurred on 17-06-2023, 10:30:12 IST, Lat: 24.81 & Long: 94.50, Depth: 45 Km ,Location: 13km S of Ukhrul, Manipur, India”

Shirui village in Manipur was hit by an earthquake last month that registered 3.2 on the Richter Scale. Three km northwest of Shirui in Manipur, the earthquakes were felt at 7:31 p.m.The earthquake occurred at a depth of 31 kilometres.

A magnitude 4.8 earthquake that hit Assam earlier that day, on June 16, was also felt in Guwahati. According to reports, the Bangladeshi city of Sylhet is 8 kilometres from the epicentre. There were no reports of injuries or property damage.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed at the Imphal police station in response to the Khamenlok tragedy, in which 9 people are reported dead and numerous others injured when thugs opened fire.

The incident happened on June 12 about 6:30 in the evening. According to the FIR, Jagat Thoundam, an advisor to the Indigenous People's Front of Manipur, has been the target of a complaint made by VP Srivastav, Second-in-Command, Camp Command, HQ IGAR (S).

The informant also charged Jagat Thoundam with encouraging animosity amongst certain groups.

Meanwhile, the case investigation has been given to SI Farooque Sheikh.

Earlier on June 12, vandals set fire to a number of homes in the village of Khamenlok, and several individuals suffered injuries in Gobajang, Tamenglong district.

Security forces continue to patrol high-risk locations in the turbulent northeastern state in an effort to avert a collapse in law and order.
