A war-like situation was witnessed at the proposed site for Manipur's dream project National Sports University (NSU) after a group of villagers protested against the construction and fired automatic guns on Thursday. A large number of people gathered at Senjam Chirang and Haoraothel areas to protest against the obstruction of the demarcation of land for construction of the National Sports University. At around noon police team tried to control the situation from worsening and disperse the gathered local.

Tear gas shells were fired and dispersed the gathering mob.

Reportedly, the chosen site belonged to three villages. One group claims the site as Kangpoki district, while another group claims it as the Imphal West district.

On October 5, a large number of people gathered to oppose the demarcation of the land as they claim it as under the Kangpokpi district. The people went hostile and the police team had to resort to firing tear gas shells which reportedly injured several protesters. Some police personnel were also injured as the protestor hit back. Following the incident, the Kuki Civil bodies called for a total shutdown from October 5 midnight till October 10. However, the band was opposed by various other civil bodies and even taken resolution for a counter bandh. On Thursday, a meeting was held and the civil bodies decided to counter blockade against the decision of the Kuki Civil bodies.
