Four Nabbed in Manipur in Drug-related Incident

In two separate incidents, four drug smugglers were arrested in Manipur. Two of them were arrested on January 6, while the other two on January 7

Kakching (Manipur): The Manipur Police arrested people from two separate areas in connection with drugs in Manipur. On January 6, a team comprising of CDO/Kakching nabbed two drug peddlers from Chandel Lamkhai area and recovered around 259 grams of brown sugar from the possession of the peddlers.

The peddlers, identified as Ng. Toroni and Shangshang Ngaruh, along with the recovered items were handed over to the Kakching Police Station for further legal action.

In another event, a team of police from the Lilong Police Station nabbed two drug dealers. The incident took place on Thursday.

The police team arrested Md. Bharot aka Alam Azad and Md. Firoz Khan, and seized 15 containers of soap, which were filled with heroin along with a Maruti A-Star car.

A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (ND&PS), for further investigation.

The ND & PS Act prohibits an individual from the production/manufacturing/cultivation, possession, sale, purchasing, transport, storage, and/or consumption of any kind of narcotic drug or psychotropic substance.

In December 2020, the Manipur Police arrested a drug peddler from Imphal West district. The peddler, identified as Seiminthang Haokip alias James, was arrested from Langthabal Phuramakhong. The police seized 378 gram of Brown Sugar, Rs 5,020 and a Bolero vehicle from the smuggler's possession.

Prior to that, in September last year, the security forces seized banned drugs worth more than Rs 1.66 crore, and further arrested drug peddlers in two separate operations in Assam's Karimganj district and Manipur's Tamenglong district. As per intelligence input, Karimganj district police launched an operation at Malua area near Badarpur and seized 18,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 90 lakh from a house owned by Samim Ahmed Tapadar. Police held two accused identified as Samim Ahmed Tapadar and Zakir Hussain. The troops of Assam Rifles seized suspected brown sugar and apprehended a drug peddler at Moreh area along Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur's Tamenglong district.
