NEW DELHI: Six-time world champion Mary Kom was disappointed after her close 3-2 loss against Ingrit Valencia in her Round of 16 clashes in the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday.
Speaking to media in Delhi Mary Kom said, "I feel bad coming back with nothing. Wanted to return with a medal. I got support from the nation. It was manipulated (decision) & cheating. I won the 1st 2 rounds(in the Round of 16 clashes)& how can I lose then. I want to apologise to the country."
The Indian legend lost the first round 10-9 after four out of the five judges scored in Valencia's favour. She trailed 4-1 at the end of the first round but managed to get three out of the five judges to score in her favour in the next two rounds. However, the six-time world champion lost 3-2 after the overall score was in Valencia's favour.
She loses a very closely contested bout against Ingrit Valencia by a split 3:2 decision (30-27 29-28 27-30 29-28 28-29)
Further, the Indian boxer lashed out at IOC over the decision of her bout against Valencia. She slammed the International Olympic Committee's Boxing Task Force for "poor judging".
"I have done so much for IOC and their task force but in this boxing arena, I fought and what decision was made. I don't know what's wrong with them, I am so disappointed," the 38-year-old went on to add.
