Guwahati: With the coronavirus-induced lockdown keeping 1.3 billion Indians cooped up indoors, gaming on mobile phones has emerged as a viable means to beat boredom.

In an atmosphere where gaming has emerged as a pastime of lakhs upon lakhs of Indians, a young lad from Manipur has taken his love for the gaming art to a whole new level by developing a mobile game himself!

Baldeep Ningthoujam, a class 9 student from the Premier English School, Canchipur, has developed a mobile game 'Coroboi' (joining the words 'coronavirus' and 'boy') amid the ongoing pandemic situation. The game, based on COVID-19 guidelines, is now available for Android users.

According to the description of the gaming app on the Google play store, "Coroboi, a boy from India(Manipur) is stranded and wants to return home. Wearing Leirum Phee (Manipuri traditional cloth) and a Mask, he will run towards his goal. He will be earning points during his journey. If the police caught him, a fine of 5000 points will be deducted"

Upon being contacted by media persons, Ningthoujam revealed that he wants to become an ethical hacker. "I want to be an ethical hacker and learn more about Artificial Intelligence and other technologies. My uncle had suggested me to develop a game on COVID. So I became interested. The development of the game completed last week and it was launched on Friday," he said.

To develop the game, Ningthoujan says that he browsed through YouTube and read articles for 3-4 weeks to fully understand it. Baldeep developed 'Coroboi' solely using software like Unity, Blender and was coded in C#.

Baldeep is fluent with many programming languages such as Javascript, PHP, JAVA, Kotlin etcetera just to name a few. In the past, this whizkid from Manipur designed websites and apps for many private companies. Among these, mention may be made of eThabak app, Manipur Times delivery app, Hello Food Express app and the website of Temple of Learning.
