Manipur boxer Sarita Devi tests COVID-19 positive

Sarita Devi's husband Thoiba Singh has also tested positive for the novel coronavirus

Guwahati: Indian boxer Sarita Devi, an Asian Games and Commonwealth Games medallist, tested positive for Covid-19 in her hometown Imphal on Monday Her husband Thoiba Singh have also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Thoiba said, "Sarita and I were tested Covid positive today. We will go to the COVID centre now, since home quarantine is not allowed here. Till this very moment, there are no COVID symptoms in us."

"I have informed all the people who came in contact with us in the last week, to isolate themselves immediately and get tested," he added.

Devi said that she was suffering from fever apart from soreness in the body, along with light cold for the last three days. "Ten days ago, I had gone to my brother's home. His wife had given birth to a baby and I was helping my brother's family. After we returned home, after two-three days, I had symptoms. At first, I thought it was muscle cramps but then we decided to get tested. We gave our samples yesterday and the results came positive for me and my husband. My eight-year-old son Tomthil, my cousin sister and her daughter have tested negative," she stated.

It needs mention here although the National Boxing Camp is at Patiala Sarita Devi is not a part of it. At present, she is training at her hometown in Manipur.

Notably, the 38-year-old is the second boxer to test positive for the dreaded virus.
