IMPHAL: In a significant development, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Friday that the details of the peace pact signed between the Central government, Manipur state, and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), a separatist insurgent group, are currently confidential. The peace agreement, a historic event that concluded a six-decade-long armed separatist movement by UNLF in Manipur, was signed on November 29 in New Delhi.
Upon his return to Imphal from the national capital, Chief Minister Biren Singh received a warm welcome at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport. The chief minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their pivotal roles in fostering peace and normalcy in Manipur and the broader northeast region. Singh specifically commended PM Modi's initiative and HM Shah's relentless efforts that led to the signing of the peace agreement.
During a reception ceremony at the BJP state headquarters in Keishampat, Imphal West, Singh, accompanied by cabinet ministers, MLAs, party leaders, and supporters, reiterated the confidentiality of the peace pact's content. He emphasized that the details would be disclosed when the appropriate time arrives, stating, "The content of the agreement signed with the UNLF group is confidential, and I cannot expose it right now; time will tell everything."
The peace pact signifies UNLF's commitment to honoring the Constitution of India and the laws of the land, marking a historic moment in Manipur's quest for enduring peace.
