Manipur: Drugs Worth Rs 8 Crore Seized, 2 Nabbed

IMPHAL : The drug seizures have still not ended in certain areas of Northeast. On 11th of January, Wednesday, Manipur police recovered 4.080 kg heroin from the state. As per the international market, the seized contraband is worth Rs 8 crore. 

Two smugglers identified as Thangminlen Kipgen of 32 years old and Ngamboi Haokip of 31 years old were nabbed along with the drugs. Both the culprits hail from Kangpokpi district of Manipur and Churachandpur district respectively. 

The accused are under custody since the night of Wednesday. The episode took place in Leimakhong area of Kangpok district, as per the Manipur police. The smugglers were carrying the drugs in an Eco car. 

They had cunningly wrapped the heroine in 100 soap cases. However, they got caught during police checking. A team of Manipur police during a regular frisking operation on Wednesday, intercepted the vehicle with drugs. 

Two mobile phone were also seized from accuseds' possession. The team comprised of personnel from the Kangpokpi police department, Sapormeina police department and Leimakhong police department.

The drugs carrying vehicle is under the custody of Sapermeina police station in Manipur. The duo is currently booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985, informed the Manipur police.

Rapid seizure of drugs has been reported in the past from the state of Manipur. N Biren Singh appealed all the departments to shift their focus to this issue and save the youths of the state from this dangerous trend.

Several campaigns over war on drugs has been conducted in the state in cooperation with the general public. However, with continuous effort by the police authorities, several smugglers got nabbed and are under the custody of the law.
