Manipur Issues Fresh Guidelines After Surge in the Cases of COVID-19

Today, the Government of Manipur issued fresh guidelines to be followed in the state keeping in mind the rapid rise in the cases of the novel coronavirus.

Manipur- The N.Biren Singh-led Manipur Government on Wednesday issued fresh guidelines after the state witnessed a surge in the cases of the novel coronavirus. The government had previously already issued COVID-19 appropriate guidelines on the 18th of April imposing night curfew, restrictions of gatherings, and rostered the opening of shops in Paona and Thangal Bazaar. These fresh guidelines are in addition has the COVID cases in the state has increased. 

The additional guidelines, under Section 20(2)(a) Disaster Management Act of 2005 are:

1. Three IMA Keithels, also known as the mother's market to be closed along with an adjoining temporary market for ten days.

2. One in each shop in the galis of the Thangal and Paona bazaar to be opened on a rotational basis. 

3. One in every three shops of Wholesale and Grocery items in the Masjid Road to be opened on a rotational basis. 

4. One in every three shops of the Ngari Gali to be opened on a rotational basis. 

5. All public transport vehicles like buses, winger vans, auto-rickshaw, e-rickshaw, etc. to only carry half their capacity and the passengers must wear face masks at all times. 

6. For the other districts, the DC and SP should immediately evaluate and issue suitable restriction orders. 

It is important to note that the Ima Keithels or the mother's market, which was closed for an entire year due to the coronavirus pandemic was opened on February 15 this year, bringing much relief to the women vendors. 

The Chief Minister of Manipur N.Biren Singh, after witnessing the present pandemic situation in the state, instructed the healthcare workers to report to their respective posting places. He took to Facebook to seek cooperation between the people and the government to curb the spread of this deadly infectious disease in the state. 

Manipur currently has 385 active cases of the novel coronavirus with a total tally of caseloads amounting to 29,869. The total death toll stands at 378 with a recovery rate of 97.44 percent.

Meanwhile, India as of Tuesday almost crossed the 3 lakh mark after recording 2,95,041 fresh new cases of the novel coronavirus, the highest one-day spike recorded in the country so far. The cases of COVID-19 induced fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours from across the country amounts to 2,023 taking the total tally of deaths to 1,82,601. The active caseloads now stand at 21,59,134 taking the total number of cases recorded as of today to more than 1.56 crores.
