GUWAHATI: The first-ever induction program for Oasis College was recently conducted at its auditorium in the Keithlemanbi Military Colony, Kangpokpi district, Manipur. This initiative aims to support displaced Kuki-Zo students affected by violent ethnic clashes between Kukis and Meteis since May 3 of this year.
Oasis College was established in response to the educational crisis faced by displaced students from the Kuki-Zo community. It is operated and managed by the Inpi Educational Trust under the auspices of the Kuki Research Forum.
A total of 56 displaced students, directly affected by the ongoing clashes, were inducted into the college. Over 24 dedicated teachers have been engaged to provide education and support.
Dr. Onkholun Haokip, Vice Principal of Oasis College, emphasized the importance of providing quality education to equip young learners with skills and proficiency in various domains. He reiterated the need for a higher education environment within the district to make quality education accessible to the broader community.
Oasis College offers diploma courses, including Medical Imaging Technology and Medical Laboratory Technology, along with other allied courses. In addition to professional courses, the institution provides general courses in Social Sciences. The college is affiliated with the Martin Luther University of Shillong.
The inaugural batch of students at Oasis College pledged to uphold the institution's values and principles and maintain punctuality, aiming to set a standard for quality education in Kangpokpi district.
During his address, Lamminlun Singsit, General Secretary of the Committee On Tribal Unity (CoTU), called on the community to support the college's mission, fostering positive societal transformation. Various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Kangpokpi district, including the Sadar Hills Private Schools Association, Kuki Students Organization, and Thadou Students Association, participated in the event, expressing their unwavering support and appreciation for the college's efforts.
Due to the volatile situation in Manipur, a significant number of displaced students sought higher education opportunities outside the state.
