Manipur: Opposition Bloc Urges Manipur CM to Facilitate All-Party Meeting with PM over ethnic conflict

10 Political Parties, Led by Congress, Seek Central Government's Intervention to Resolve Nine-Month Ethnic Violence in Manipur

MANIPUR: In a significant development, the Congress-led coalition of 10 opposition parties in Manipur elected Chief Minister N Biren Singh and leaders including Veteran Congress leader and former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh highlighted the important role of the Chief Minister in encouraging to commit to a sustainable solution to the problem.

During their meeting with Chief Minister N Biren Singh, representatives of ten political parties collectively expressed their solidarity and support over PMModi’s efforts to bring emergency issues on Manipur. The two sides emphasized that, due to the complexity of the conflict, a solution could only be achieved through the direct intervention of the central government. They stressed that the Government of India has the capacity to convene all conflicting parties for dialogue and work out a solution acceptable to all stakeholders.

A 10-party alliance including Aam Aadmi Party, Trinamool Congress, CPI-M, CPI(M), Forward Block, RSP, Shiv Sena-UBT, Janata Dal United and NCP had earlier urged the government to start talks with him let them settle the matter amicably with all stakeholders to bring lasting peace and harmony to Manipur.

After the meeting with the opposition parties, Chief Minister N Biren Singh highlighted the collective commitment among the delegates and shared insights on the dialogue. He expressed optimism about joint efforts to navigate the challenges and work for the overall welfare of Manipur. He expressed his determination to address the current state of the country through constructive dialogue and cooperation in a collective manner.

As Manipur grapples with nine months of communal unrest, the call for a high-level meeting involving state and central leaders underscores the urgency and complexity of the issues at hand. The merger of political parties reflects a shared concern for the prosperity and stability of Manipur, as the state seeks a comprehensive solution to the ongoing crisis.
