Manipur: PLA Militant Nabbed From Kakching

As per the information shared by Assam Rifles on micro-blogging site Twitter, the Phundrei Battalion of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police nabbed the militant on Friday

Imphal: The Assam Rifles on Sunday said that it apprehended a militant of the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA) from the Kakching district of Manipur.

As per the information shared by Assam Rifles on micro-blogging site Twitter, the Phundrei Battalion of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police nabbed the militant on Friday (May 27).

"Phundrei Battalion of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police, on 27 May, apprehended an insurgent of proscribed group PLA from Wabagai Keithel Macha, Kakching District, Manipur," Assam Rifles tweeted.

Later, the arrested militant was handed over to Hiyanglam police station for further investigation.

Notably, Assam Rifles has been very proactive when it comes to dealing with insurgency or militants and often the jawans of Assam Rifles engage themselves in countering the insurgency so that peace can be maintained in the region.

Recently, a month agao, the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), had recovered a huge cache of weapons and war-like stores (WLS).

The operation was carried out near Kelsih, 19 km south of the Aizawl district, based on specific information.

An operation was launched by personnel from the Aizawl Battalion of Assam Rifles on the basis of specific information of possible smuggling of weapons and WLS near Kelsih village.

The Assam Rifles team noticed and intercepted two hired vehicles in the area and spot-checking was carried out by the team.

During spot-checking weapons and WLS were recovered and four individuals were detained. The use of such warlike stores could have endangered the lives of innocent people and led to various illegal activities.

The recoveries made included three pump action shotguns, five .22 rifles, seven telescopic sights, 20 boxes of air pellets, one bipod, 10 PDF flags, three boxes of PDF badges, 2,000 metres (44kg) of safety fuse, 3,000 kg (24,000) sticks of gelatin, and around 100 kg of gunpowder.

Two vehicles were also seized, stated a press release.
