IMPHAL: In a significant development on Friday, a collaborative security effort in Manipur successfully apprehended Aheibam Amorjit Singh, a 50-year-old member of the outlawed People's Liberation Army (PLA). The PLA serves as the armed wing of the banned Revolutionary People's Front (RPF). The arrest unfolded at approximately 6 am, executed by a combined team comprising Manipur and central security forces.

Aheibam Amorjit Singh, a resident of Kongba Kshetri Leikai in Imphal East, was taken into custody during a mobile frisking and checking operation on NH-2 at Mantripukhri Bazar. The arrest was part of the ongoing efforts to maintain security and curb illegal activities in the region.

The security team discovered incriminating documents, two mobile handsets, and a sum of money in possession of the detained individual. Preliminary investigations revealed his involvement in extorting money from three-wheelers operating along NH-2, which connects Imphal to Dimapur in Nagaland. This illicit activity had reportedly been ongoing for the past few months, raising concerns about the security and safety of commuters.

The PLA, formed on September 25, 1978, has been actively engaged in guerrilla warfare as part of the insurgency in Manipur. The group advocates for the restoration of Manipur's lost sovereignty, contributing to the complex socio-political landscape of the state.

Following the arrest, a case has been registered to initiate further investigations into the activities and network of Aheibam Amorjit Singh. The joint security operation underscores the commitment of the authorities to address and dismantle elements contributing to unlawful activities, particularly those with links to insurgent groups.

This successful operation highlights the collaborative efforts between state and central security forces in addressing security challenges in Manipur. The seizure of incriminating evidence further strengthens the case against the detained individual, marking a significant step in maintaining law and order in the region. The joint efforts of the security forces exemplify a coordinated response aimed at restoring peace and stability to the region.
