IMPHAL: Th Basanta Kumar, the education minister for Manipur, has announced the hiring of 1000 teachers for Manipur's public schools. The procedure to address the issue of a teacher shortage in Manipur's government schools will shortly be initiated.
At the 40th Tashar Katamnao Long (TKL) Education cum foundation day, which was held on Friday in Tashar village, Ukhrul district, Basanta Kumar gave the keynote address.
The state's education sector is experiencing a teacher deficit, according to a speech by education minister Basanta Kumar. Manipur needs 17,000 instructors for its schools, yet 700 of them retire each year.
"Happy to have attended the 40th TKL Education cum Raising Day observation program on the theme: Our Dream – Prosperity in Education at Tashar Village, Ukhrul. Distributed prizes to meritorious students as part of the program. @narendramodi @NBirenSingh @blsanthosh," a tweet read by the education minister of Manipur.
During this time, there has been no hiring of new school teachers in Manipur, and as a result, there are currently just 10,000 teachers employed, vs a need for about 7000 more teachers.
The Minister went on to say that the government is working to address the lack of teachers in Manipur's public schools, whether it be through infrastructure improvements or human resource additions. But because the State budget allotted for the education department is inadequate, discussions have been conducted to increase the budget allotment.
The State budget allotted for the department of education, however, is insufficient, and as a result, discussions have been undertaken to enhance the budget allotment.
Basanta Kumar said that the center had approved Rs 168 crore for upgrading the state's educational sector and that the money is being used to steadily improve the facilities.
The government intends to hire 1000 school teachers in Manipur soon, despite the fact that it will be challenging to immediately address the teacher shortage.
The minister then noted that in Manipur, women make up around 70% of the teaching staff in public schools. In addition, the majority of the teachers in Manipur are older than average, which creates a little bit of a problem when it comes to transfers and postings.
In addition to these elements, pressure from other departments is frequently present when transferring a teacher to the hills. As a result, he explained, a new mechanism is being adopted in the transfer-posting policy of teachers to enable the instructors to stay in their place of posting for a long period while taking into account their age, sex, and domicile.
