Manipur Tribal Students' Union agrees to call off 48-hr bandh after meeting with CM N Biren Singh

CM Singh said a cabinet meeting will discuss the demands of the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) regarding tenure and elections of ADCs

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh held a discussion with members of the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) regarding their demands of holding timely elections of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in Manipur. Following the meeting, the students' union decided to suspend the 48 hour bandh called by them from Thursday.

Chief Minister Biren Singh posted on Facebook that he had a "fruitful discussion" with ATSUM members.

ATSUM had issued a press release in which it mentioned that based on the assurance given by the Chief Minister that the demand of the ATSUM to hold the ADC elections on time and that no further extension will be given to the present term of the ADC, ATSUM agreed to defer their proposed agitation for now.

The Chief Minister also said that a cabinet meeting will discuss their demand and a concrete decision will be taken, just after the upcoming by-elections.
