IMPHAL: In a shocking incident in southeast Delhi, a Manipuri man, along with his wife and sisters, fell victim to a brutal assault by a group of unidentified assailants. The attack took place in Kilokari village, and the Sunlight Colony police station received a distress call at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, reporting a quarrel in the area.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the altercation had escalated into a physical assault, leading to severe injuries. The victim, a Manipuri man currently residing in Jeevan Nagar, Ashram, was rushed to the hospital for treatment in a PCR van. The police team at AIIMS collected the medico-legal case (MLC) report, revealing abrasions on the victim's knees, redness, swelling in the eyes, and swelling on the left side of the forehead.
The victim later arrived at the police station and provided a written complaint detailing the harrowing sequence of events. According to his statement, on Thursday around 11:30 p.m., after dinner, he was accompanying his sister, friend, and wife to drop a friend in the area when they were approached by three strangers, one of whom was female. The strangers requested assistance in booking an Uber to Munirka online due to a dead phone battery.
The situation took a distressing turn when, while waiting for the ride confirmation, one of the strangers verbally abused and insulted the Manipuri family. The verbal altercation escalated into a physical assault, targeting the victim's wife and sister. Amidst the chaos, the victims made a PCR call, and within minutes, they found themselves surrounded by several individuals who joined in the assault.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), Rajesh Deo, confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections, and the police are actively working to apprehend the perpetrators. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and the investigation aims to uncover the details surrounding this disturbing incident.
As the authorities delve into the case, the community awaits justice for the victims of this unprovoked and heinous assault, raising concerns about the safety and security of individuals from the Northeast in the national capital.
