IMPHAL: On June 24, vandals burned down a private godown owned by Manipur Minister of Public Health Engineering Department, Consumer and Food Affairs L Susindro Meitei in a new incidence of arson in the state.

Even a mob attempted to torch the minister's home, but timely arrival of security personnel allowed them to use tear gas to disperse the crowd. The arson incident was reported from Ishirou in Imphal East, close to the Sajiwa Jail, where the miscreants also set a BJP office on fire.

The incident occurs barely hours before an all-party conference about the Manipur issue would be held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Today at 3 PM, the meeting will take place in Delhi.

Protesters have come out in search of safety and a stop to the episodes of arson and vandalism as the situation in the state is still tense. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been questioned by demonstrators from various groups and organisations for his inaction on the matter.

The Manipur Police said on Friday that most districts are returning to normal, with the exception of a few isolated incidents. They added that a total of 1,095 weapons, 13,702 rounds of ammunition, and 250 different types of bombs have been found so far in various locations throughout the violent northeastern state.

In the Bishnupur district's Torbung Mamang Leikai, a combined team of the Bishnupur district police and 10 BSF conducted a search operation on Thursday.

Additionally, a search operation was carried out in the Kakching district villages of Zo Veng, T Munaomjang, Sugnu tribal, and Serou part 3, according to the report, by a team made up of the 37 Assam Rifles and local police.
