Imphal: A new insurgent group has been formed in Manipur by the former members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), which had previously been banned.
The new armed outfit floated by the KYKL former members is called Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA). As per the statement released by Toijam Ibpchou, who is the former vice president of KYKL and the current leader of SOREPA, the group has been formed with an aim to "regain the independence of Kangleipak/Manipur in Western South East Asia (WESEA)".
The statement also says, "We believe that a revolution cannot go forward without a proper revolutionary doctrine. Our revolution is based on Kanglei/Manipuri Nationalism. But in order to regain independence, the love of the motherland is not enough."
Further, Ibpchou added, "A revolutionary movement should be done under the right system. So, in order to establish a revolutionary movement that is suitable to the land, a new revolutionary party called Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has been formed by former members of KYKL."
According to Ibochou, it is necessary for the revolution to take a step towards "Marxism-Leninism-Maoism" for the preservation of the identity of the people of Kanglei/Manipur and added that most people have forgotten this fact.
He said, "Money and muscle may suppress the true revolutionary movement for a while, but not in the long run. Many are deserting the revolutionary movement."
As per the claims made by the new outfit, the respect that was displayed to other revolutionary outfits would be maintained by the SOREPA.
Sharing its ideology, the group said, "We would not disrespect KYKL, from whom we departed due to differences in ideologies. We would like to thank KYKL for teaching us the importance and experience of a revolutionary movement."
The SOREPA asserted that a revolutionary movement would not benefit by participating in "electoral politics, striving for profits and practising nepotism". The outfit declared that its motto is "Socialism with Kanglei (Manipur) federal characteristics."
Keeping in view the existence of different cultures in Manipur, the outfit reasoned, "the respect for its independence was not respected, India sowed the seed of colonialism."
