Manipur: During the Okram Ibobi Singh-led Congress regime in Manipur, Moirangthem Okendra- who was a state minister earlier has been named as the new chief of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). Okendra replaced by Gaikhangam Gangmei - as the new president of the state unit of the Congress.
On October 23, the formal announcement was made by interim party Chief Sonia Gandhi after discussions were held with leaders of the state unit.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge KC Venugopal said that Congress president has appointed Okendra as the president of Manipur Congress with immediate effect.
Okendro is the son of late M Ibotombi, was the education and home minister Ibobi-Ied Congress government.
Okendro is 53 years old is a four-time MLA from Heirok constituency. In the year 1995, he was first elected as an MLA and retrained his seat in the consecutive years 2000, 2007, and 2012.
Former Delhi Speaker Subhash Chopra as the president of the national capital, apart from Manipur the party high command also appointed. Since former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila’s Dikshit’s demise in July this year the post had been lying vacant.
A communication said Congress president has appointed M. Okendra as president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.
