IMPHAL: There is an urgent need to arrest population explosion with active participation of the masses and the stakeholders concerned, opined noted personalities at the third NE Webinar for Manipur chapter organized by the Jansankhya Samadhan Foundation (JSF) from 7.30 pm to 9 pm on October 6.
Dr Subhajit Choudhury moderator of the seminar narrated the objectives of the webinar and welcomed all the participant and speakers. Chairman JSF Northeast Chapter, Sailendra Pandey introduced JSF and the importance of population law for the country. Pandey urged all sections of the society — including villagers, women, youth, students, teachers and professionals — to support the law to regulate population.
NSFNE coordinator Lalji Sonari focussed on the ways as to how we each member of the society can play an important role in making this law effective at the ground level. He also expressed his happiness by witnessing the active participation from the people of Manipur.
Professor Naorem Lokendra Singh, Head of the History Department in Manipur University, vividly narrated as to how the Jiribam area (in Manipur) of late is becoming one of the restless places (compared to its earlier status as a calm and quiet place) due to its excessive population. He also mentioned about the history of migration from neighboring places as one of the reasons for population explosion, which needs to be stopped at any cost.
Dr. (Prof.) O Ranjit Singh of the History Department, Manipur University, pointed out, "Excessive population is a burning issue, and we need to wholeheartedly support the population control law." He appealed to all to join hands for a strict legislation on population control.
Dr Jaya Laxmi Devi remarked that population control is need of the hour for Bharat. Among the other dignitaries who participated in the webinar included Dr Th Mina Devi, Dr W Dhiren Singh, Dr H Ajit Meetei, Dr Kamei Budha Kabui, Shantibala H, and Dr Kangabam Ibetombi Devi.
Sailendraji offered the vote of thanks and especially mentioned the media secretary and also the publicity Secretary of JSF NE Chapter Bhuban Chetia and Prasenjit Deb respectively. stated a release.
