SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Wednesday recorded 192 new cases and three deaths due to COVID-19. In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya -- especially in the Shillong agglomeration -- the government on Wednesday decided to impose certain restrictions in East Khasi Hills, even as people coming into Meghalaya will have to mandatorily undergo RT-PCR tests, informed Deputy Chief Minister PrestoneTynsong.

He, however, added that people who have already taken both the doses of COVID vaccine are exempted from the test. They will have to show their test certificates to the personnel manning the entry points of the State. Besides, tourist spots in East Khasi Hills will remain shut with immediate effect till April 30.

Colleges and universities in Shillong will also remain closed up to May 3. But colleges having examination centres have been exempted. Online classes held from college premises will be also allowed. Gymnasiums, clubs, swimming pools, gaming parlours, cinemas, salons, bars will remain closed from April 23 till April 20. Also non-essential shops will be closed from April 26 to May 2. Government offices will operate with 33 per cent strength.
