SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded 37 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Health authorities informed on Wednesday.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr said that of the 37 new cases, while East Khasi Hills registered 23 (BSF: nine; armed forces: two; and civilians: 12); West Garo Hills: 10 — all BSF personnel; and one each from South Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills districts.
With these new cases, the State now has 656 active cases. Of these cases, East Khasi Hills has 445 (BSF: 97; civilians: 277; and armed forces: 71); Ri-Bhoi: 93; West Garo Hills: 82; West Jaintia Hills: 16; East Jaintia Hills: six; North Garo Hills: five; three each from West Khasi Hills and South Garo Hills; two from South West Garo Hills; and one from South West Khasi Hill. Meghalaya also recorded seven recoveries on Wednesday taking the tally to 517. Of the seven newly recovered cases, East Khasi Hills has three, West Khasi Hills two, East Jaintia Hills one and Ri-Bhoi one.
Altogether 42,084 samples have been sent for testing till Wednesday afternoon. Of these, while 40,611 samples yielded negative results; reports of 294 samples are being awaited. Altogether 27,290 citizens entered the State till Wednesday afternoon.
