SHILLONG: Meghalaya continued to witness a steep rise in COVID-19 cases with 63 more persons detected positive on Thursday, taking the total active cases across the State to 862. Meanwhile, five more patients (4 BSF personnel and a civilian) recovered during the day. With this, the total number of recoveries across the State has gone up to 730.

The Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War informed that 50 persons (including 41 personnel of the armed forces, eight civilians, and one BSF jawan) were detected from the East Khasi Hills district; seven BSF troopers from West Garo Hills; five civilians from Ri Bhoi; and one from the East Garo Hills district.

Of the 862 active cases, East Khasi Hills has 515 cases (305 civilians, 117 armed forces personnel and 93 BSF); 214 in West Garo Hills and 100 in Ri Bhoi.

Moreover, North Garo Hills has 10 active cases followed by eight in East Jaintia Hills; four each in West Jaintia Hills and South West Garo Hills; three in West Khasi Hills; two in South Garo Hills and one each in South West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills districts.
