SHILLONG: The All India Regional Rural Bank Employees Association (AIRRBEA) has batted for appointment of locals in the regional rural banks. “Local touch should be retained and those posted should understand local ethics and culture,” SV Reddy, secretary general AIRRBEA said. He said that with the government of India making all India recruitment it is diluting the local feel. “All local employees should be given priority particularly those in clerical jobs,” the secretary general said.
Meanwhile, Tom Chettri general secretary of Meghalaya Rural Bank Officer’s Association said that the CD Ratio in the Meghalaya Rural Bank is 39 per cent to 40 per cent.
There are 94 branches of the Meghalaya Rural Bank in the state.
Reddy also said that the AIRRBEA is strongly opposed to the proposed 49 percent share by private investors in regional rural banks.
“We oppose it strongly since private investment in regional rural banks would be dilution of objective, which is to take banking to nook and corner of the country for social service,” the secretary general said.
