SHILLONG: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Meghalaya unit on Sunday condemned a fake social media post which stated that two legislators, who recently defected to the party from the Congress, were contemplating to quit.

"We strongly condemn the divisive propaganda unleashed to halt our progress. Such tactics only increase our strength and resilience to fight on. We are proud of our exemplary leaders' commitment to furthering development in Meghalaya. Urging everyone to avoid spreading misinformation," the AITC said in a statement on Sunday.

On Christmas, a Facebook post claimed on the basis of "rumours" that AITC leaders Charles Pyngrope and George B. Lyngdoh will quit the party. "This page which describes themselves to be a media agency but yet posted unverified news," a statement from the TMC said.

The Facebook post also states that the Trinamool Congress will never understand the people of Meghalaya.

The party said that it was shameful that the divisive propaganda machinery was unleashed on Christmas to create an air of mistrust amongst the people against AITC. "The All India Trinamool Congress stands for development of the people of Meghalaya and it will not leave any stone unturned for that," the party said in the statement.
