Alleged harassment of Khasi people in Bangladesh condemned

A meeting of prominent leaders, traditional heads, leaders of NGOs of War Mihngi and War Jaintia, was held on Saturday at Dawki, under the chairmanship of M Ryngksai, Rangbah Shnong Dawki.

SHILLONG: A meeting of prominent leaders, traditional heads, leaders of NGOs of War Mihngi and War Jaintia, was held on Saturday at Dawki, under the chairmanship of M Ryngksai, Rangbah Shnong Dawki.

The meeting expressed its deep concern on the incidents which had happened in different places of Bangladesh where Khasi people had been allegdly threatened and harassed.

"We urge the Government of Khasi , Bangladesh, Meghalaya, through the Chief Minister, to take up the matter immediately with the Government of Bangladesh so that these types of incidents are not repeated in the future," said Edmund Khongngai, spokesperson and publicity secretary, Co-ordination Committee of India Bangla Riwar People.

He informed that the leaders had also resolved to form an adhoc committee known as Co-ordination Committee of Indo Bangla Riwar People, where RM Shabong was elected as its chairman, Kmen Myrchiang as vice-chairman, SS Manners, general secretary, Matthew Kongwang as assitant secretary and Edmund Khongngai as spokesperson and publicity secretary.
