Army celebrates 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' at Polo Ground with varied programmes

The nation is celebrating “Swarnim Vijay Varsh” to commemorate the historic victory of Indian Armed Forces in 1971 War.

SHILLONG: The nation is celebrating "Swarnim Vijay Varsh" to commemorate the historic victory of Indian Armed Forces in 1971 War. As part of the celebrations, 101 Area is organising a 'Weapon & Equipment' display-cum-awareness programme on 'Know Your Armed Forces' for three days from March 25 to 27 at Polo Ground, here.

The event was inaugurated by Major General H.S. Shanbhag, the Officiating General Officer Commanding, 101 Area on March 25. During the programme, the Army, Air Force and the Assam Rifles are displaying various weapons and equipments for the students, NCC (National Cadets Corps) cadets and the local populace.

During the last few days, the fascinated youths showed tremendous inquisitiveness regarding the capability and functioning of the exhibited weapons and equipments. Besides that, 'Khukri Dance' display, and performances of the 'Pipe & Drum Band' of 58 GTC have been enthralling the audience with their mesmerizing performances. A movie on 'The Liberation of Bangladesh' was also screened at the venue.

In addition, 'Career Guidance and Interaction' for the students and NCC cadets was also organised. During the interactive session, the students and locals were made aware on various types of entries to join the Indian Armed Forces as a career option.

The students were inspired by the glorious history of the Indian Armed Forces and were highly motivated to the join the Forces. The event witnessed attendance by large number of NCC cadets, students and locals of the area.

All the attendees expressed profound gratitude for undertaking such an initiative and appreciated the continuous efforts and commitment of Indian Army in reaching out to the youths.
