WILLIAMNAGAR: Government Chief Whip and Williamnagar MLA Marcuise N. Marak -- in the presence of the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe, district officials and other dignitaries -- inaugurated the new building of Greenyard Higher Secondary School -- funded by the Asian Development Bank -- here on Friday.
Inaugurating the school building, Marcuise informed that this school had contributed immensely to the district in terms of education.
Talking at length about the need to develop educational infrastructure and opportunities in the district and referring to two youth from the area who cleared the recently conducted MPSC main examinations, he lauded the initiatives taken by the Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, for motivating the youth of the region in terms of studies and pursuing competitive examinations and urged him to motivate more youth.
He also informed the gathering about his initiatives to get a new building to Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School.
Congratulating the school for getting a new building under the ADB project in the first phase, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, informed the gathering that the district is trying to keep the pace at par with other districts in terms of development of educational infrastructure and urged the schools to give proposal through the education department for availing infrastructural development to their respective schools.
Former GHADC Chairman D.T. Sangma informed the gathering that the State Government is working to improve the education scenario.
The president of the school and retired Williamnagar ADC P.R. Marak, while delivering the welcome address, informed that the school is being run by the Williamnagar Baptist Church -- one of the oldest in the district. School Principal D.N. Sangma proposed the vote of thanks, stated a release.
