Ban on amplifiers, other high-decibel items at night in West Garo Hills District

TURA: The West Garo Hills District Magistrate, Swapnil Tembe, has issued a notification prohibiting the beating of drums, tom-tom, blowing of trumpet or beat or sounding of any instrument or use of any sound amplifier at night between 10 pm and 6 am except in public emergencies.

An official communiqué stated that according to the notification, the use of loudspeaker or public address system will not be allowed without obtaining written permission from the concerned authority and the noise level at the boundary of the public place where loudspeakers or public address system or any other noise source is being used shall not exceed 10 decibel above the ambient noise standards for the area or 75 decibel, whichever is lower.

Use of horn will not be allowed to use at night between 10 pm and 6 am in the residential areas, except in exceptional circumstances, and the peripheral noise level of privately-owned sound system or sound producing instrument at the boundary level of the private place will not be allowed to exceed more than 5 decibel (A) the ambient noise standards specified for the area in which it is used, the notification added.
