SHILLONG: Senior BJP legislator from South Shillong on Friday dispatched a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking his intervention to resolve the unsettled border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya. Alluding to the unsettled border outline between Assam and Meghalaya where there are several areas wherein disputes are frequently observed, the Senior BJP leaders said, "This lead to an uneasy calm and hostility among the people living in both sides of the border.", even as he added that the people in the unsettled border areas are facing from several difficulties as several developmental activities cannot be carried due to border dispute in the region. He further stated in the letter that the people of Meghalaya are a peace loving community, but the effects of border disputes spills into the rest of the state affecting lives of people all over and also disrupt the communal harmony.
"So, as per the decision taken by the centre to resolve the all pending border disputes among the North-eastern states by 2021, I would like to seek central government intervention in resolving long pending unsettled border outline between Assam and Meghalaya. The decision to resolve border disputes among the North-eastern states by 2021 is a noble thought and gesture and one that we are highly grateful for," Shullai stated.
Emphasizing on the need of the Union Home Ministry to intervene , the senior BJP legislator felt that This act by the government will help boost the morale of the party workers all across the region and will help us strengthen our party base and future consolidates our presence.
