SHILLONG: The troops of the Border Security Force in Meghalaya on May 20 successfully intercepted a vehicle loaded with a huge quantity of sugar meant for smuggling into Bangladesh.
In the process the BSF also apprehended two Indian nationals near Bholaganj bordering area under East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. "Based on specific information, BSF troops identified and intercepted the truck loaded with 10,000 kgs of sugar," the BSF said.
According to the BSF upon questioning, the driver and co-driver failed to produce valid documents pertaining to the consignment of sugar. The seized sugar and apprehended persons were handed over to the Customs office Bholaganj for further legal proceedings.
Recently, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a vehicle laden with substantial amount of sugar destined for smuggling into Bangladesh. This incident occurred on May 14. It happened near the Kuliang bordering area in the East Jaintia Hills district. This district is in Meghalaya.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs BSF personnel intercepted a vehicle. It was carrying a staggering 13,000 kilograms of sugar. The vehicle was traced back to its origin in Kalain. This place is in the Cachar district of Assam. The occupants identified as Rahimuddin from Karimganj district. Tazimul Hussain from Cachar district, failed to furnish any valid documentation regarding the consignment.
Simultaneously in separate operation conducted at MCP Sonapur, BSF troops intercepted two light vehicles transporting six cattle intended for smuggling across the border. One driver managed to evade capture. The BSF apprehended the other along with the seized cattle.
Following protocol the confiscated sugar, cattle and detained individuals were handed over to the local police outpost in Umkiang for further legal proceedings.
In a recent operation conducted on May 1st in Songdoi village Churachandpur district of Manipur, law enforcement officials successfully apprehended an individual identified as Nangzading. He is a resident of New Lamka within the same district. This operation aimed at combating drug trafficking.
Nangzading was found to be in possession of 660 grams of Brown Sugar a potent narcotic substance. The illicit substance was ingeniously hidden within 50 soap cases. The estimated value of the seized Brown Sugar on the international black market is staggering Rs 1.32 crore.
