Breaking: Meghalaya Govt allows gyms and yoga centres to re-open

The Meghalaya Government's decision for the reopening of gyms follows the Centre's directive to open up gyms and yoga centres from August 5

Guwahati: The Meghalaya Government on Thursday (August 13) decided to reopen the gymnasiums and yoga centres which have been closed ever since the nationwide lockdown to curb the novel coronavirus came into effect.

Also, the number of days for stand-alone shops to open in market areas will be increased. The necessary notifications in this regards shall be issued by the Deputy Commissioners.

"Government has decided that gyms and centres for yoga/aerobics will be allowed to re-open. Further, the number of days for stand-alone shops to open in market areas will be increased. DC to issue necessary notifications", Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma's office tweeted moments earlier.

The Meghalaya Government's decision for the reopening of gyms follows the Centre's directive to open up gyms and yoga centres from August 5 onwards as a part of its unlock strategy meant to revive the economy that has witnessed a massive downturn amid the crisis.

While issuing guidelines for the third phase of lifting curbs imposed to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the Centre that gyms and yoga centres can reopen from August 5, while also removing a night curfew that restricted movement of people outside containment zones.

Issuing special rules, the Centre has asked the yoga centre and gym owners to have space of four metres per person and equipment should be kept six feet apart. The Centre has also directed yoga centre and gym owners to create specific pathways for entering and exiting the building with proper direction markings on the walls.
