SHILLONG: The BSF Meghalaya Frontier is putting in all-out efforts to make the international border free from smuggling, cross-border infiltration and other border menaces.

According to the BSF, such endeavours of security forces irk miscreants who, in desperation, often attack the troops manning the borders for resisting their illicit acts day and night.

One such incident took place on Saturday in the bordering area of the South Garo Hills district under the 43 battalion of the BSF, where some miscreants/smugglers injured a BSF jawan by pelting stones.

"On being resisted while they were trying to smuggle cosmetics and other items across the international boundary, the miscreants started pelting stones incessantly on BSF troops on observing the patrol party, thus causing serious injury to one jawan," the BSF said.

Despite serious injury caused, the BSF personnel showed utmost restraint and respect for human lives by not resorting to firing, but tactfully managed to foil the smuggling attempt of miscreants.

"The presence of mind and valiant act of BSF troops has once again foiled the evil intention of cross border smugglers," the BSF authorities said.
