CBI conducts searches in NEHU over forged bills of Rs 11,60,066

SHILLONG: The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) has registered a case against then Associate Professor and then Finance Officer -- both working in the NEHU (North-Eastern Hill University) here -- on the allegations of submitting forged bills amounting to Rs11,60,066 (approximately) under the 'Waste Management Project' funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

It was further alleged that the accused had misappropriated the government funds in two projects under the 'Environmental Information System' (ENVIS) sanctioned by the Ministry during the period from August 2018 to October 2018.

Searches were conducted in the office premises of ENVIS Resource Partner Centre, NEHU, Shillong which led to recovery of incriminating documents including list of students under two courses (Waste Management and Environmental Laws), details of account opened in the name of ENVIS RP Centre, NEHU, Shillong and correspondence related to the release of funds among others.

RAILWAY SCAM: The other case was registered on a complaint from Dy. CVO (Traffic), Northern Railway, New Delhi against four officials under DCR, Delhi, a private company and other unknown public servants and private persons. It was alleged that the private company in connivance with said public servants and others entered into conspiracy during the period 2012 & 2013 and lifted the scrap worth Rs.2.24 crore (approximately) on the basis of money receipts issued by the accused public servants without actual realization of said amount in the Railway account.

Searches were conducted at seven places which led to the recovery of various incriminating documents including property documents and bank-account papers among other items. Investigation in both the cases is continuing, stated a release.
