Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma lays stress on working for farmers' interest

SHILLONG: In an endeavour to promote farmers' well-being and enable them to dream big, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is on a mission to create the much needed awareness on the potential to upscale agricultural activities in the State.

He has been touring different districts in the State to interact with farmers under the government's flagship programme - FOCUS -to ensure that farmers come together as a group to form 'Producers Group' and avail financial support and hand holding, which the State Government through Meghalaya Basin Management Authority (MBMA) has initiated in the State.

Speaking at an interaction programme with farmers at Ampati in South West Garo Hills, the Chief Minister informed that Prime Hub was being set up across the State to provide training to farmers and entrepreneurs through MBMA. He said that very soon the Prime Hub would be established in South West Garo Hills. He also informed that the government was working with farmers and entrepreneurs to provide them market linkage, access to interest free loans, technical support and certification.

He also said that the State Government had conceptualized the programme to ensure that majority of the population in the State, who are dependant on agriculture for their sustenance, are able to reap the benefit of this programme of the government. He informed that the government was committed to work for farmers' interest and necessary assistance and support would be provided through various farmer welfare programmes. He also interacted with farmers of the district and handed over financial support to various producers groups of the district.
