Shillong: The clean “Wah Umkrah” initiated by the Shillong Municipal Board seems to have generated initial results. Barely three months after the municipality kickstarted the drive, The Sentinel found out on Tuesday that there has been changes in the stretch from Fourth Furlong to Polo Bridge.
Chairman of the Shillong Municipal Board, Batlang Sohliya told The Sentinel that there are changes that has become motivating to further our second phase.
“Besides our urge to the inhabitants of the banks within this stretch, we have acted hardly on those who violated the notifications to block unwanted toxic waste from their households and establishments,” stated Sohliya.
The mission is the same where mesh traps will be further laid to trap the waste that flows into the river from the hinterland. So far, there are four mesh traps in the three km stretch. All the waste are being collected and then taken into a landfill.
