SHILLONG: A complaint has been filed against Jindal India Limited, on December 16, for supplying a low-quality GI pipe under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme on the grounds that it does not match the order of the department.

The pipes were delivered at Umsning subdivision of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and other parts of Meghalaya. The purchase order stated for a medium quality, with a minimum wight of 7.38 kg. However, the GI pipe supplied by the company weighed only 6.1 kg.

The complaint was filed by the Khasi Students' Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills district unit, led by president Ferdinald K. Kharkamni, through the Additional Deputy Commissioner, FM Lakiang (MCS). They also met the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ri-Bhoi district, and insisted for a magisterial inquiry into the matter.

"The Jal Jeevan Mission is a special scheme for the citizens of India, particularly those from rural areas. The PHE department ordered for a medium quality GI pipe but the one delivered did not even meet the requirements. It is a matter of concern as it may face damage within a year, considering that most of the areas of Meghalaya are hilly areas," Kharkamni said.
