Congress announces names of candidates for bye-elections in Meghalaya

The Congress on Sunday announced its candidates for the three assembly seats going for bye-elections in Meghalaya. The names were cleared by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday evening.

SHILLONG: The Congress on Sunday announced its candidates for the three assembly seats going for bye-elections in Meghalaya. The names were cleared by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday evening.

For the Mawryngkneng assembly constituency, the Congress has allotted the party ticket to Highlander Kharmalki. The Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), which met on Saturday, had recommended two names for the Mawryngkneng assembly seat - Kharmalki and Norbert Marboh.

Kharmalki had contested the 2018, assembly election on a People's Democratic Front ticket, but lost to David Nongrum of the Congress. Meanwhile, the AICC has cleared the names of former MLA Kennedy Khyriem for the Mawphlang seat and Hashina Yasmin Mondal for the Rajabala seat. Mondal is the wife of Dr. Azad Zaman.
