Shillong: Environment was the cornerstone of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s speech at the ‘Get to Together Harmony’ organized by the Central Puja Committee (CPC) in Shillong on Wednesday.
Going with the objective of the CPC to make the Durga Puja celebrations environmental friendly, especially in shunning the use of plastics, Sangma said, “We have this tendency to pass resolutions and then not adhering to it”. The Chief Minister said that our rivers and streams have turned into nullahs filled with garbage and it is the duty of every citizen to bring back these rivulets and rivers back to life.
MP Vincent h Pala in course of his speech reminded the audience about the cosmopolitan character of the city and the State as a whole. “As we strive forward in our wishes, we should have patience in any stressful circumstances”, stated Pala.
Earlier, the president of CPC, Naba Bhatacharjee spoke about the ‘feel good factor’ of the minority populace in the State. The CPC get-together was attended by leaders of different faiths and social organizations.
